LIFE BELOW WATER
Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources to achieve sustainable development. The goal includes ten targets that must be achieved by 2030. Progress towards each target is measured by one indicator for each. The first ten “end targets”: reduce marine pollution, protect and restore ecosystems, reduce ocean acidification, sustainable fisheries, and conserve coastal and marine areas, ending subsidies that contribute to overfishing, and increasing economic benefits from the sustainable use of marine resources. The last three goals are “ways to achieve” the goals: increasing scientific knowledge, research and technology for ocean health, supporting small-scale fishers, and implementing and enforcing the international law of the sea. The decade 2010-2019 was the warmest decade in history. Climate change is currently affecting the global community in every country in the world. Its impact includes not only national economies but also lives and livelihoods, especially those in vulnerable conditions.
